Case 02-C-x, originally brought in the Circuit
Court of Cook County and later removed to the United
States District Court for the Northern District of
Illinois, a class of hourly employees of meat packing
company claimed they were not paid for time spent
donning and doffing safety equipment and mandatory work
uniforms. They also claimed that the company improperly
rounded their time to the employees’ detriment. They
brought claims under the
Fair Labor Standards Act and
Illinois Minimum Wage Law. Caffarelli & Siegel Ltd.
brought a successful motion for class certification.
The case settled to the employees’ satisfaction.
Case 03-C-x, brought in the
United States District Court for the Northern District
of Illinois, a teacher claimed that she was terminated
in
retaliation for opposing the early renewal of the
principal’s contract and presenting a new curriculum
plan to the school board. Caffarelli & Siegel Ltd.
successfully defended against the school’s motion to
dismiss. When the Court subsequently denied the teacher
her right to proceed to trial, Caffarelli & Siegel Ltd.
appealed the Court’s decision to the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Case 03-C-x, brought in the United States
District Court for the Northern District of
Illinois, a former employee of a manufacturing
company brought suit alleging he was laid off
because he was the
oldest employee performing his
job. Caffarelli & Siegel Ltd. successfully defeated
the company’s motion for summary judgment. The case
settled on the eve of trial to the employee’s
satisfaction.
Case 03-C-x, brought in the United States
District Court for the Northern District of
Illinois, a former employee of a manufacturing
employee sued his employer for violation of the
Family and Medical Leave Act. The employee alleged
he was terminated for requesting leave to travel to
Mexico to care for his pregnant wife, who was having
complication with her pregnancy. Although the
employer attempted to claim the employee voluntarily
resigned his position, the case settled to the
client’s satisfaction.
Case

agreement, fraud, and conversion of assets.

employee’s motion to dismiss. The case was
ultimately transferred to the Central District of
California, and settled to the client’s
