CONTACTING US FOR AN APPOINTMENT

When an individual contacts the Firm for the first time, our administrative staff will gather a brief description of the individual’s employment matter.  This description will enable us to assess the basic information about the claim and determine whether:

1.         the Firm handles the type of matter at issue;

2.         this is a case that the Firm would be interested in learning more about;

3.         there is a potential conflict with the named employer;

4.         the issue at hand qualifies the applicant for a free telephone screening (i.e. discrimination, retaliation, FMLA, wage cases, etc.); and/or

5.         the matter will be directly reviewed in a consultation (i.e. contract and severance reviews.)

Our firm offers two kinds of initial appointments:

1.      Free Telephone Screening

The Firm offers a free 10-minute telephone interview to clients presenting potentially viable discrimination, retaliation, FMLA, and/or wage claims.  If the potential client qualifies for a free screening, we will schedule that individual for an interview with one of the Firm’s associate attorneys.  During the interview, the attorney collects more detailed information about the individual's employment matter and determines whether the individual has a potential legal claim that the Firm would be interested in pursuing.  The screening also enables the associate to provide the individual with a brief legal analysis of the matter and a recommendation for future action.

If the associate and the individual decide to move forward with potential representation, the individual will be scheduled for a consultation with one of the Firm’s partners.  If the individual completes a screening with an associate but is not scheduled for a consultation, the Firm sends the individual a standard "Non-Representation Letter" for insurance purposes.

2.      In-Office Consultation

If the individual has a potential legal claim that the Firm may be interested in pursuing, we schedule the individual for an in-office consultation with one of the Firm's partners.  Our regular consultation fee is $190, unless waived based upon the telephone screening.  The consultation entails a 45-minute in-depth meeting in which the partner collects and reviews any additional information required to make a final decision about the viability of the individual's matter.  The partner also takes the time to explain the pertinent employment laws – including proof and potential damages – in greater detail.  At the end of the meeting, the partner will discuss the representation process with the potential client and, if appropriate, will also provide the suitable representation agreement and review it with the individual during the consultation meeting.

If the individual does not become a client after the consultation with the partner, the Firm sends the individual a standard "Non-Representation Letter" for insurance purposes.

THE IN-OFFICE CONSULTATION – PAYMENT AND PROCEDURE

1.      Fees and Payment

Under normal circumstances, the Firm charges $190 for all consultations.  All consultation fees are due at the time of service, prior to the appointment.  We accept several forms of payment, including cash, check and credit card (VISA, Master Card, AmEx, and Discovery).

2.      Appointment Cancellation and Rescheduling

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please give us at least 24 hours notice.

3.      Client Questionnaire

All prospective clients are asked to complete a standard questionnaire prior to their scheduled consultation.  The completed questionnaire may be e-mailed or faxed to us at least one hour prior to the appointment so the potential client will get the most out of his or her time.  The potential client may also bring the completed questionnaire to the office on the day of the appointment.  In that event, we ask that the potential client arrive at least ten minutes early so that the attorney can review the individual’s information in preparation for the meeting.  We also ask that the potential client bring to the appointment any pay stubs, contracts, agreements, company handbooks, and/or other significant documents related to the case.

LEGAL REPRESENTATION

An individual becomes a client upon the Firm’s receipt of the signed representation agreement and payment of any applicable legal fees pursuant to the agreement.

ATTORNEY’S AVAILABILITY

The attorneys avoid interruptions while working on client matters.  As a result, they typically take phone calls and visits by appointment only.  If you become a client, the attorneys normally return phone messages and emails in order of urgency.  Please be assured that the attorneys or their assistants will return your message at his/her earliest opportunity.
